Rik Midgley Ph.D. As a Level 2 Internal Family Systems (IFS) practitioner, I have been working with IFS for 10 years. In 2018 I became an Internationally Certified Facilitator of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). Rooted in my 35 years of Vipasanna Meditation practice I developed a working understanding somatics, the felt sense of the body, and created a practice to nurture body awareness and understanding called Self-Connection Qigong.
I offer a compassionate approach combining state of the art psychotherapy and the somatic wisdom of the ancients. Balancing the focus of mind orientated explorations (top-down) and the grounded meaning of body centred processes (bottom-up), I use IFS as a psychological ‘map’ to explore the historical evolution of behaviours and thoughts. This is an exercise in knowing and loving ourselves.

One to One Work The doorway to healing is in listening with curiosity and openness to how you feel in the present moment. This is as a consequence of everything in your past, both recent and ancient. This provides a physiological foundation for emotional safety and cognitive processing to occur more effectively. This befriending of the tangible voice of the body along with the recognition of each parts benevolent intention can lead to sustainable neurological change.
The past cannot be changed, but how you relate to it and how you are now can be your choice. In welcoming all parts of your internal self, each can be seen for the life enriching role that it has been working hard at to keep you safe and well. This witnessing and understanding invites a shift in their roles such that they may contribute in more life serving ways. Click here to read more about working with Rik as an individual or a couple.

About Rik, his history, his training and his passions.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a new compassionate approach to psychotherapy which involves acknowledging the aspects of ourselves which habitually show up, perhaps with an emotion or an energy, and finding an understanding for their underling purpose. It is a natural process, supported by Rik’s experience of working with the body.
Nonviolent Communication (NVC), also known as Compassionate Communication, is an awareness process focusing upon the relational, or what is alive when we speak and think both to ourselves and with others. By acknowledging the underling meaning and intension of our words and action, a bridge is lain between mind and body which leads to greater clarity and integrity. My somatic approach, which values the felt experience, supports a deep integrity beyond cultural influence.
Compassionate Mediation. A transformational process in which couples are supported to hear and understand the underlying message that the other yearns to be heard and recognised for.
Self-Connection Qigong Awaken the felt sense, befriend the body, and nurture understanding of the mind-body relationship in my awareness and movement workshops
